Thirunelveli Iruttukadai Halwa is very famous sweet from Tamil Nadu.

It started more than 100 years back in a small dark shop, so people called it “Iruttukadai” means dark shop.

 This halwa is special because it is made only with wheat milk, sugar and pure ghee. 

No color or chemical is added. 

Taste is very rich and soft, and smell of ghee is strong.


Water used for this halwa comes from Thamirabarani river, so people believe it gives special taste.

 Even today, the halwa is made in traditional way, slow cooking with care. 

Many people stand in long queue to buy this halwa, especially during festival time.

 Tourists who visit Thirunelveli never miss this sweet. 

Iruttukadai Halwa is not just food, it is pride of Thirunelveli.
